Never meet your heroes

When starting Good Humans, my intention was clear: work with good people and brands who want to do good work. Sounds simple, right?

Well... not always.

Over the past few years, I've worked with sustainability businesses only to learn that they don't treat their people well. I've landed dream clients only to find out things are much rosier from the outside than they are on the inside. And then I've met incredible people, but there was no budget to keep working together long term.

And that's okay (for the most part). Because this is the real world and things aren't perfect. So what do you do when the idea you had in your mind doesn't meet reality?

For me, I go back to my values and purpose. Good Humans serves good humans.

If a client or project feels wrong in my gut, or I can't quite see past a manager logging into employees' emails without their consent (true story), maybe it's time to leave. But if they're good, kind people with good intentions who trust and respect you, sign me up. I'm in for the long haul. And sometimes that means the slightly less glamorous work that gives me freedom and balance.

And maybe that's who the real heroes are.

Not always the big names with the fancy offices, but the everyday people building healthy businesses, supporting their employees and working together to add a little more good to the world.
